NAFLD: A Major Liver Concern

by docwellness

According to Life Extension Foundation’s research, 1 in 3 Americans now suffer from the “quiet” condition known as NAFLD – NonAlcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. This disease may go undetected for many years and can progress to liver inflammation and scarring (also known as cirrhosis) or even full blown liver failure.

Its major cause is poor diet that leads to the well known “big 3″ — metabolic syndrome, obesity and diabetes. Some hypothesize that genetics can play a role but this is most likely poor diet and lifestyles choices “disguised.” Standard medicine does not have any effective treatments to any degree for this issue.

Natural medicine on the other hand, does. There is a multi-phase focus on NAFLD:

* Reducing oxidative stress
* Reducing insulin resistance
* Reducing fat accumulation and abnormal lipid profiles

In terms of treatment, Vitamin E, Omega 3 fatty acids and dietary and exercise changes are the most common choices. The goal is to improve liver chemistry, ameliorate liver cell damage and improve the blood flow to the liver itself.
